'My job is awful.'
'I don't like my colleagues.'
'I am not paid fairly.'
'My boss doesn't listen.'
'I have had enough.'
'I will not let my job take over my real life. My work is not my life.'
These are phrases or even expressions that might be the cause why employees choose 'quiet quitting' at work because they are undervalued at work, unfair compensation, feel burnt out and work efforts go unnoticed.
It's terrible, right? But, do know that the term 'quiet quitting' doesn't entail resigning. The term was first used in a tweet in March 2022.
However, a TikTok video from July 2022 is where the term attained its ultimate popularity. In the middle of August 2022, the concept began to take off.
Moreover, it has its own full phrase meaning, even though grammatically you might want to turn quiet into an adverb that modifies quitting but it's not the case, in other words, quiet quitting is not truly about quitting.
It's more of a way of accomplishing the bare minimum at work. It is indeed quitting doing anything.
The truth is that the term "quiet quitting" has a rather broad definition and can signify many different things to many individuals.
It could appear as but not limited to:
-A teacher who is involved and active starting at 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and not taking any work at home.
-While on vacation with his family, a programmer refuses to complete any work.
-At exactly 5:00 p.m., shutting down your laptop and logging off of your computer. rather than staying at work until 5:30 and even onwards.
To refer to those who are quietly quitting, use the term 'quiet quitters'.
To the Employers out there, to address this issue, there are tips to consider to curb quiet quitting:
â–Connect them to the goals of the business.
â–Give importance to them frequently.
â–Invest in their training and growth.
â–Treat them with consideration
â–Pay them with the appropriate compensation.
After all, maintaining a better work-life balance is what matters the most.
